They learn to navigate between class, order, family and species in minutes. This helps them learn to recognize animal species and understand which creatures are related to each other through the animal groupings. For example, if they’re interested in ‘cats’, they can see a range of different cat species, as well as learning that they are ‘carnivores’ within the class ‘mammal’. Then they can go on to investigate dogs, frogs, penguins, ducks, lizards, snakes, crocodiles, turtles and many others! There are also lots of animals for kids who like woodland wildlife. We’ve kept terms like ‘primates’, ‘carnivores’ and ‘baleen whales’, but bats are just ‘bats’ (not ‘Chiroptera’, in case you were wondering). Quickly see the difference between a leopard, a jaguar and a cheetah. Or remind yourself of the difference between arachnids and insects.
