About this app

Parents, do you have young children who like nature and wildlife? With this easy to navigate, educational app you can make learning about animals a family activity. Browse over 200 animal pictures including invertebrates, vertebrates, birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, crustaceans, molluscs, myriapods and more! How hard is it to find good apps for 2 year olds? Well, we’ve tested this app with toddlers and small children and they love it. Young kids are captivated by the great animal photos and drawings. They learn to navigate between class, order, family and species in minutes. This helps them learn to recognize animal species and understand which creatures are related to each other through the animal groupings. For example, if they’re interested in ‘cats’, they can see a range of different cat species, as well as learning that they are ‘carnivores’ within the class ‘mammal’. Then they can go on to investigate dogs, frogs, penguins, ducks, lizards, snakes, crocodiles, turtles and many others! There are also lots of animals for kids who like woodland wildlife. Let them browse the insects and see how much variety there is between different beetles. Adults who like wildlife biology will also enjoy the naming conventions. Taxonomy’s tough. We’ve thought hard about sensible naming conventions that will help people understand animal designations. Group and species names are listed without ‘dumbing down’ but also without going overboard with latin. We’ve kept terms like ‘primates’, ‘carnivores’ and ‘baleen whales’, but bats are just ‘bats’ (not ‘Chiroptera’, in case you were wondering). Quickly see the difference between a leopard, a jaguar and a cheetah. Or remind yourself of the difference between arachnids and insects. Suitable for 2 year olds, 3 year olds, 4 year olds, 5 year olds…well, children of any age with an interest in the animal kingdom.
