About this app

KeyBlock puts your Mac's keyboard on pause. Tap Lock Keyboard and the screen takes over with a clean full-screen lock view. Every keystroke is intercepted and discarded for as long as the lock is on. You can wipe the keys with a cloth, blow out crumbs, hand the laptop to a small child, or set the Mac down with a cat on the desk — nothing gets typed. When you're done, press the emergency hotkey Shift+Option+Cmd+L or wait for the auto-unlock timer. Who it's for: • Anyone wiping the keyboard, blowing out crumbs, or flipping the laptop to clean it • Parents handing the laptop to a small child or holding an infant near the keys • Pet owners whose cat insists on walking across the desk • Presenters running a live demo who don't want a bumped key to derail the flow • Teachers turning a classroom Mac into a brief kiosk without a stray keystroke • Anyone who just needs to step away from the keyboard for a few minutes How it works: • One click to pause every key in a full-screen lock view • Auto-unlock timer from 1 to 60 minutes — the lock never gets stuck on • Emergency unlock hotkey Shift+Option+Cmd+L — always available, always reachable • Lives quietly in the menu bar, out of the way until you need it • Native SwiftUI, dark mode by default, light mode supported, full VoiceOver labels • Reduce Motion and Reduce Transparency are respected throughout • Under 3 MB on disk, instant launch, zero background work when not in use Why a full-screen lock: The earlier KeyBlock asked for Input Monitoring to intercept keystrokes globally — a TCC permission a lot of people were rightly uncomfortable granting a small utility. The 2.1 rebuild opens a focused full-screen window that captures every key event before macOS can route it anywhere else. No permissions, no prompts, same end result: the keyboard is paused. A quick Q&A: • Does this lock my whole Mac? No — it pauses the keyboard, not your session. Mouse and trackpad keep working. To lock the entire machine, use Control+Cmd+Q (built into macOS). • What if the app crashes while the lock is on? Quitting KeyBlock — through Force Quit or a reboot — instantly returns control of the keyboard. There is no system-level hook to clean up. • Does it work over remote desktop? No. KeyBlock intercepts local keystrokes; a remote session takes a different path. • Will it interfere with other apps? No. While the lock is off, KeyBlock is just an idle menu bar icon. No background processes, no key logging, nothing running. No permissions, no setup: KeyBlock requests no system permissions whatsoever. No Input Monitoring. No Accessibility. No prompts on launch. It just works. Privacy: KeyBlock never reads, records, stores, or transmits keystrokes. While the lock is active, key events are simply dropped — not inspected. The app is 100% offline. There are no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no network calls. Nothing ever leaves your computer. KeyBlock is a one-time purchase — no subscription, no in-app purchases. Built by a small indie team at DRISH LABS who care about every pixel. Download once. Use it every time your keyboard needs to be left alone.
