About this app

Save unfamiliar words before they slip away. Word by Word is a calm vocabulary notebook for building your own personal dictionary. When you hear or read a word you want to keep, open the app or tap the home screen widget, type the word, accept the suggested meaning or write your own, and move on. Later, return to review, search, hear pronunciation, and grow your notebook at your own pace. Word by Word works with Swedish, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, and Japanese. What you can do: • Capture new words quickly by typing them or taking a picture • Save your own translations, notes, and context • Get dictionary details when available • Hear pronunciation for saved words and basics • Browse your vocabulary by date or theme • Search words, meanings, and saved notes • Learn essentials in the Basics tab: alphabet, numbers, dates, time, phrases, colors, weather, grammar, and more • Discover a Today's Word suggestion • Review your progress with gentle practice and weekly recaps • Use the app without creating an account This is not a full course, flashcard grind, or gamified language app. There are no streaks, leaderboards, or pressure loops. Word by Word is closer to a diary for your vocabulary: a calm place for the words you actually notice while reading, listening, studying, traveling, or living in another language. Capture works locally, so you can save words even when you are offline. Sign in with Apple is optional if you want backup and sync. You can delete your account and data from Settings at any time.
