About this app
Point your camera at the horizon and your waypoints appear floating over the real world — near ones large and close, distant ones small and faded. No map to download. No data connection. No account. Just your camera, GPS and compass, working when nothing else does. Off-Grid GPS answers one question: which way, and how far? It is not a mapping app and it will not plan a route for you. It is the modern equivalent of a hand-held GPS and a compass - a bearing, a distance and a running ETA to every point you care about, updated every second. THE AR VIEW Point your phone and your saved waypoints hover over the live camera feed, placed by compass bearing and GPS. Nearby points appear large and bright; distant ones shrink and fade. No headset, no special hardware. THE COLOUR CUE Your waypoint list is alive. Each row shades toward green as you close in and toward red as you drift away. Across the whole list, at a glance, you can see which destinations you are approaching and which you are leaving behind - without reading a single number. EVERYTHING ELSE - Live distance, bearing and ETA range to every saved location - Tap any waypoint for degrees to turn, closing speed and absolute bearing - GPS speed, course, elevation and accuracy, with a colour-coded accuracy bar - Add waypoints by map search, or drop and drag pins - Metric, imperial or nautical units - Fully dark interface - Works in flight mode WHO USES IT Hikers heading off trail. Sailors and kayakers crossing open water. Drivers on remote desert roads. Geocachers, hunters and anglers. Radio amateurs taking bearings to distant towers. Anyone who needs a direction and a distance when the map runs out. FREE, WITH NO CATCH No ads. No nags. No subscription. No account. No tracking. Your waypoints are stored on your device and never leave it. I wrote the first version of Off-Grid GPS in 2009 because I needed it myself. It has been free ever since.
