About this app

PlacePoint — save places and find your way back. PlacePoint is a simple walking compass for the places you want to return to. Drop a point at your current location, search for a place you plan to visit, or choose an exact spot on the map. PlacePoint saves your locations and points you back to them with clear distance, bearing, and compass guidance. It is useful for city walks, travel days, hikes, field work, festivals, campuses, parks, and anywhere you want to remember a place without relying on road directions. Use PlacePoint to: Save the pub, café, museum, hotel, parking spot, trailhead, meeting point, campsite, or viewpoint you want to return to. Plan your day by searching for and saving places before you go. Drop your current GPS location when you find somewhere interesting. Choose a precise waypoint directly on a full-screen map. Browse saved places on a map before deciding which one to make active. Rename saved places so they are easy to recognize later. For field work, PlacePoint can also help mark off-road locations such as wildlife cameras, bat houses, survey points, monitoring stations, or equipment placed in forests, wetlands, parks, and other areas where normal road navigation is not enough. PlacePoint is intentionally simple. It is not trying to replace full map navigation. Instead, it answers one practical question: Where is that place, and which way should I walk to get back to it? Your saved places stay on your device, and the app is designed to launch quickly so you can mark a location or start walking without fuss.

What’s New

Version 1.3 Jul 4, 2026

This update lowers the minimum iOS requirement so PlacePoint can run on more devices. It also includes the new place-saving and browsing features from version 1.1: choose a waypoint directly on a map, review saved places before making them active, rename saved locations, and manage multiple saved points while keeping compass guidance visible. Squashed a bug as well.
