THE DAILY CROSSING Two bite-sized cryptic clues each day, crossed at a shared letter. Solve the first and it hands a letter to the second: the small kindness the Society is named for. Solve or reveal, every clue ends with its full workings: definition, indicator, wordplay, answer. Do this daily and the code cracks itself. Chapter One shows you the secret (every clue is two puzzles pointing at one answer) and hands you a real clue to solve. The gramophone is mended. The parlour music fell silent for some members after the engineers' last visit. It plays again, and one tap of the speaker brings it back whenever the room is quiet. The keyboard has also learnt its manners: tap anywhere on the paper and it steps aside instead of standing in front of the clue. And the little A and D boxes now sit level with their clues, as they always should have.
