About this app

Walkabout turns your everyday steps into a walk through the world's most iconic streets. Using real footage from Apple Maps' Look Around, Walkabout advances you along a curated walking route — through Tokyo, Paris, New York, London, Rome, or Madrid — based on the actual steps you take, tracked via Apple Health. No treadmill screens, no fake progress bars — just real photography of real streets, unlocked one step at a time. HOW IT WORKS • Pick a course: a landmark-dense loop through one of six cities • Walk in real life — your steps move you forward on the route • See where you are: each checkpoint shows an actual photo of that spot • Check your progress anytime from the home screen widget COURSES • Tokyo Loop — Shibuya, Meiji Jingu, Asakusa, Skytree, Ginza • Paris Loop — Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Notre-Dame • New York Loop — Times Square, Central Park, Wall Street • London Loop — Big Ben, Tower Bridge, the London Eye • Rome Historic Center Loop — Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Colosseum • Madrid Historic Center Loop — Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, Royal Palace Walkabout only reads your step count — nothing else. Your health data stays on your device and is never sent anywhere or used for advertising. Free to use, supported by ads.

What’s New

Version 1.1 Aug 24, 2026

Rome and Madrid have grown. Each course now visits eleven landmarks instead of five, with a longer walk between them. New places to walk • Rome — Spanish Steps, Villa Borghese, Piazza del Popolo, Castel Sant'Angelo, St. Peter's Basilica, Mouth of Truth • Madrid — Almudena Cathedral, Temple of Debod, Plaza de Cibeles, Retiro Park, Prado Museum, Reina Sofia Also new • The widget keeps up with your steps without needing the app opened • Each course keeps its own progress, so switching between them no longer starts you over • Places you have already walked past stay in your journal after you complete a lap • See which lap you are on • Each checkpoint now shows how many steps it took to get there • Open a place from your journal and the main view goes there Fixed • The widget now names the landmark you have reached • Some landmarks, including the Arc de Triomphe, showed the wrong view • The route map now follows the streets • Today's step count could read as zero for a moment when the app opened

Baseline captured. Growth appears after the crawler observes a changed rating count.

Momentum comes from crawler snapshots for the tracked storefront. “Viral growth signal” means unusually fast recent rating gains; it is an indicator, not download data.
