About this app

Learn to notice, understand, express, and recognize the six universal emotions—Anger, Disgust, Fear, Happiness, Sadness, Surprise—with short, focused practice you can do anywhere. AboutFace.Q turns your camera into a guided mirror and your phone into a quick reference for facial cues. It’s designed for actors, educators, coaches, clinicians-in-training, and anyone who wants to feel more confident reading and showing emotion. What you can do Mirroring Practice Focus on one face area at a time (forehead, brows, eyes, cheeks, mouth). A soft overlay shows exactly where to practice while you watch yourself live on camera. Facial Recognition (On-Device) Point your camera at a face (yours or a consenting partner’s) to see the most likely emotion in real time. Great for quick spot-checks while you learn subtle cues. Processing is performed on-device; no images are uploaded. Transitions Trainer Practice moving cleanly from one expression to another (e.g., neutral → surprise → happiness). Timed prompts help you nail the beats between emotions—not just the endpoints. Recognition Quizzes Test yourself with short clips and stills. Get instant feedback, then jump straight back into practice on any area you missed. Show Example Toggle a short example clip to compare your expression with a model and refine details like brow tension or lip corner height. Quick Facts Bite-size notes for each emotion: common facial/voice cues, typical blends (e.g., fear + sadness → dread), and real-world confusion pairs. Fast Switching Jump between emotions from a simple picker and keep practicing without losing momentum. Why it helps Breaks complex expressions into simple, observable parts Builds muscle memory for subtle facial movements Improves confidence in social, stage, therapy, and on-camera settings Face Data Disclosure (from our Privacy Policy) What face data does the app collect? We do not collect or store biometric identifiers. During live exercises the app reads transient facial landmarks and expression scores generated from camera frames on your device only. We do not save photos or video, and we do not create a face template that can identify a person. How is this face data used? Solely to power real-time, on-device features you see in the app (guided mirroring overlays, live emotion likelihoods, training feedback). It is not used for advertising, profiling, or any unrelated purpose. Is face data shared with third parties? Where is it stored? No. Face data is not shared with third parties. It is processed in memory on the device and is not uploaded to our servers or stored in cloud services. How long is face data retained? Only for the duration of processing. It exists in volatile memory while a session is active and is discarded immediately when processing ends. It is not written to device storage or logs. Where is this explained in the privacy policy? See Section 7: Face Data and Biometrics (collection, use, sharing, storage location, retention), Section 5 (your rights), and Section 6 (security). Exact text quoted from the policy: “SocialQ does not collect or store biometric identifiers. Transient facial landmarks and expression scores are processed in memory on the user’s device solely to provide real-time feedback in the Application. Face data is not uploaded, shared with third parties, or retained after the session ends.” Note: AboutFace.Q is an educational tool. It does not provide medical diagnoses or therapeutic outcomes and should not be used as a substitute for professional advice.
