About this app

You have just moved to Erlangen. The bins have German names, the collection days change by house number, and the calendar the city publishes is a PDF you will never open again. Bin Day Erlangen answers one question: which bin goes out tonight? Type your street once. From then on a reminder arrives at 18:00 the evening before every collection — naming the bin, the colour and the deadline. Nothing else, ever. SIX LANGUAGES English, German, Spanish, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Korean. Choose one in Settings or let the app follow your phone. The bin names themselves stay German — Restmüll, Biomüll, Gelber Sack — because that is what is printed on the bin and on the city's own calendar, and you need to be able to match them. Everything explaining them is in your language. WHAT IT DOES • Tells you tonight's bin the moment you open it, in type you can read across a kitchen • Sends one reminder the evening before — about twice a month, not more • Warns you when a public holiday moves a collection, and reminds you a day earlier when the round is emptied early. This is the day newcomers get caught • Shows the next four weeks, and exports them to your calendar if you would rather not have notifications • Answers "where does it go?" for the things that genuinely confuse people: pizza boxes, coffee capsules, receipts, batteries, broken glass BUILT FOR THIS CITY Erlangen keys its schedule to street segments, not streets — Hauptstraße alone splits into eight. All 1,452 segments are in the app, with every published collection date. Glass is shown as drop-off only, because there is no kerbside glass collection here and the app should say so before you go looking for one. NO ACCOUNT. NO SERVER. NO TRACKING. Your address is stored on your phone and nowhere else. There is no sign-up, no analytics, no advertising SDK and no crash reporter. Every collection date ships inside the app, so it works in aeroplane mode. The app only touches the network when you ask it to. Not affiliated with the City of Erlangen. Collection data comes from the city's own waste-calendar service.

What’s New

Version 1.2 Aug 10, 2026

A sorting game, for the bins that catch everyone out. Tap PLAY at the foot of the Bins tab: ten everyday things, five bins, drag each one where it belongs. Get it wrong and it tells you why, in a sentence. 140 items, from pizza boxes to Pfand bottles. The Bins tab is rebuilt around the four kerbside bins — tap one to see ten things that go in it, instead of having to know the word first. Everything is in all six languages, and the German bin names stay German, because that is what is printed on the sack.
