All other musicians in the ensemble relate the timing of their parts to the gankogui rhythm. Gankogui is the West African ancestor of Afro-Caribbean clave. The Gankogui app offers users a library of Ghanaian timeline rhythms with authentic sound samples and flexible-tempo playback. Learners and practitioners of West African drum and dance music can use Gankogui as a powerful practice tool. Musicians and researchers can utilize the broad library of timeline rhythms to expand their knowledge of West African rhythm. Instrumentalists from all backgrounds can use Gankogui as a more exciting, advanced, and musically pleasing alternative to a standard metronome. Reflecting the origins of these traditional bell patterns, the app is organized into two categories: Asante and Ewe. Asante features twelve timeline patterns using Kete and Fontomfrom dawuro sound samples. Ewe features eight bell patterns utilizing gankogui sound sample playback.
