About this app

Kodist is a point-and-shoot camera app that produces lifelike film photographs. ◎ No AI enhancements Kodist eschews all AI enhancements by processing data directly from the sensor: - Your shots are never too evenly lit - There’s no excessive sharpening, aggressive denoising, or artificial smudging - No weird, frowned-upon HDR artifacts along edges - Natural, pleasant-looking film grain produced by physics, not algorithms ◎ Film photography profiles Your shots are rendered with your choice of professional film color profiles. They deliver natural, balanced colors that make your photos stand out in a sea of phone photos. ◎ Photos in 1 step Point and shoot, and that’s it: your photo is saved to your iOS Photo Library, and the camera gets out of your way. You can review your last photo and adjust for a different exposure or focus. ◎ Tap and swipe for focus/exposure Tap the viewfinder to focus and expose on a point of interest. Tap and hold to lock it in. After you tap to focus/expose: - Swipe up/down to adjust exposure - Swipe left/right to manually focus — a focus peaking overlay helps you identify the area in focus ◎ Packed Technologies Your experience is not an afterthought in Kodist. It’s packed with quiet, quality-of-life technologies: - 10-bit HEIF: Your photos are saved in a modern, rich, space-efficient format. - Skin tone mapping: Your photos are subtly adjusted to preserve skin tones across different lighting — without ruining the film look. - Extended Dynamic Range (EDR, often called HDR): Details are preserved in highlights, making your photos look true to life — all without the in-your-face brightness. - Geo-tagging: Your photos are placed on a map and searchable in your Photo Library. - Automatic image orientation: Photos are automatically oriented to how you hold the camera. - EXIF info preserved: Camera metadata is faithfully preserved for your future reference. - Hardware buttons: Use the volume up/down buttons to take a photo, or use the camera button on a supported device. - Start the camera from the Lock Screen: Add Kodist to your Lock Screen, or set it to launch with the camera button on a supported device. ◎ Software you own Kodist includes 1 film effect you can use for free. A single, one-time purchase unlocks all other film effects — simple for you, honest from us.

What’s New

Version 2026.5 Jul 8, 2026

Hi there! This update contains some improvements to the photos you make with Kodist. ◎ Manual focus After tapping to focus, you can now swipe left/right to adjust the focal distance. Zebra lines are overlaid to help you see where you are focused. We hope you like having manual focus control while keeping Kodist's lightweight camera experience. ◎ Technical improvements * Your photos are now oriented more accurately and reliably, especially when you take portrait and landscape shots in quick succession. * Photo orientations are locked when you press the capture button — the orientation won’t change if you move the device after capture. * Photo timestamps are locked to the moment you pressed the shutter. * When photographing a person, colors now subtly correct toward natural skin tones. * Kodist now launches 50% faster — from 0.87s to 0.41s on an iPhone 15 Pro. Not huge, but we like it ;) Thank you and hope you’ll enjoy the update.
