About this app
Live Movie Poster display for Home Theaters. Turn any TV into a stunning cinema marquee with animated Live Posters, trailers, and automatic artwork from your media player. Ideal for a Mac connected to a wall-mounted Samsung Frame TV, an Apple TV, or a wall-mounted iPad. Remotely control the display from your iPhone. Portrait mounting is recommended — Now Showing automatically rotates into portrait mode even when not supported by your devices. All platforms included with any purchase. Direct network integration is provided for 6 media players: Apple TV, Kaleidescape, Panasonic UHD players, Kodi, Zidoo, and Oppo UHD players. No control system needed. Features vary by player including automatic artwork display based on playing content, and playback progress. Alternatively, if Roomie Remote X (separate app and subscription) is also deployed, deep room-aware integration is activated for over 20 supported media players. Take your Home Theater to the next level with Now Showing! FEATURES • Live Posters. Movie posters come alive with subtle, cinematic animation — the signature Now Showing experience. • Curated Poster Collections. Idle cycling draws from hand-picked movie collections for consistently high-quality, family-appropriate content. • Kaleidescape & Plex Library Cycling. Point Now Showing at your Kaleidescape system or Plex server and cycle through your actual movie library's high-resolution covers. • 4-Up Poster Wall. Optional layout for library cycling shows four covers at once, refreshing on a stagger for a classic poster-wall feel. • Multi-Display Poster Sync. Coordinated cycling across all your displays with staggered offsets so each screen shows different content. • Poster Anchor. 5 anchor points (Center, Top, Bottom, Top Left, Top Right) and 3 scale modes for 15 layout combinations. Set a global default or override per poster. • Automatic Artwork. Media players like Kaleidescape and Apple TV automatically display the poster for whatever is playing. • Playback Progress. Live progress indicator with configurable top or bottom positioning for supported media players. • Scenes Library. Save Now Showing configurations to an iCloud-synced library and switch between them from a document-style title menu. • Timers. Countdown timers appear as a glass pill over a dimmed poster, with custom durations or absolute start times, and can fire commands to your media device when they start and complete. • Playlists. Schedule Scenes and Timers to run automatically with Default, One-Time, Recurring, and On-Demand triggers. • Send to Network Displays. Push Timers and Playlists to any other Now Showing display on your network. • Remote Configuration. Deploy configurations to any Now Showing instance on your network from any iOS, iPadOS, or macOS device. • Full 4K images and trailer support for any QuickTime-compatible video format. (Recommended aspect ratio is standard movie poster 2:3) • Extensive Customization. Colors, fonts, bars, and many other display aspects. • Target Display-Relative Sizing. Zoom and custom bar sizing scale relative to your configured Target Display for accurate previews. • Multiple simultaneous displays supported on macOS. iPadOS and tvOS support 1 monitor. • Roomie Remote X integration (optional separate app) enhances the experience with room-aware auto-switching across your control system. Latest release
What’s New
• Fixed the Metropolis 1920 marquee font rendering. • Fixed joining a detected Roomie Remote Home. Recent in 4.0: • Digital Rain Frame Style — A new Matrix-style animated frame for the top and bottom bars: falling green code rains behind your marquee text, with five modes — Steady, Drizzle, Downpour, Glitch, and Surge — that follow your chosen Frame color. • Timers & Sequences — A new unified Library replaces the old saved-configs menu, organizing everything into Scenes, Timers, and Playlists in a single panel. • Scenes — Saved Now Showing configurations now live in an iCloud-synced library. Save, rename, export, import, and switch between them from a document-style title menu. • Timers — Create countdown timers with preset or custom durations. A glass countdown pill appears over a dimmed poster, can override the top/bottom bar text while running, and fires a command to your media device when it starts and completes. • Playlists — Schedule Scenes and Timers to run automatically with Default, One-Time, Recurring, and On-Demand triggers, with priority resolution when more than one applies. • Send to Network Displays — Push Timers and Playlists to other Now Showing displays on your network. Saved targets that are currently offline now appear (dimmed) in the picker so Send and Copy actions always have a visible referent. • Timer Start-Time Mode — Set a timer to fire at a specific clock time instead of a countdown, with optional poster dimming and a more compact countdown pill. • tvOS Poster Layout — Choose the poster layout directly on tvOS. • Elapsed-Time Progress — Players that report only elapsed time (e.g. Oppo UB-820) now show progress; the play icon is reserved for sources with no playback feedback at all. • Duplicate Scene — Fork the current scene into a new, editable copy in one step, from the title menu or the Scenes panel, so you can build a variation without changing the original. • Reliability fixes across launch, display refresh after Open / Revert, macOS screen binding and fullscreen, library cache when switching display type, and tvOS image-load timing. Recent in 3.5: • Live Posters Cycling — Idle and active poster rotation can draw from Live Posters, our full library of video posters, shuffled for variety. • Kaleidescape Library Cycling — Point Now Showing at your Kaleidescape system and cycle through your actual movie library as posters, using the system's high-resolution covers. • Plex Library Cycling — Connects via your Roomie-configured Plex account, discovers your server, and cycles through your movie library's posters. • 4-Up Poster Wall — Layout option for Kaleidescape and Plex library cycling that displays four covers at once, refreshing on a stagger. Recent in 3.4: • Curated Poster Collections — Idle poster cycling draws from hand-picked movie collections for consistently high-quality, family-appropriate artwork. • Multi-Display Poster Sync — When Sync Displays is enabled, curated poster cycling is coordinated across all your displays with staggered offsets so each screen shows different content.
