Whatungarongaro te tangata toitū te whenua - People come and go but the land remains. This whakatauki inspires us to appreciate the importance of whenua, and our responsibility to understand, develop and care for whenua, moana and arawai. Nau mai, haere mai. Te Puna Hāpai is an educational resource for Toitū Te Whenua Land Information NZ staff to learn about basic Tikanga and te reo Māori to support their day-to-day mahi (work) and their engagement with Māori. Interactive features within the app include pronunciation of Māori words, maps with Māori place names and iwi groups, mihimihi/pepeha (introductions), ngā mihi (greetings), poroporoaki (farewells), whakataukī (proverbs), waiata (songs) and links to key LINZ documents that support effective engagement with Māori. One of the app’s key features is that staff can self-populate their own personal pepeha information.
