About this app

TrueMotor is a focused NEC Article 430 motor-calculation app for working US electricians — the clean, correct tool for the branch-circuit math people get wrong by hand. Pick the motor, get the answer in seconds, and see exactly how it was calculated. THE SINGLE-MOTOR BRANCH CIRCUIT — FREE • Full-load current from NEC Table 430.250 (three-phase) and 430.248 (single-phase), by horsepower and voltage — the table value, used per 430.6(A), not the nameplate. • Branch conductor sized to 125% of FLC (430.22) against NEC 310.16 ampacity, copper or aluminum, 60/75/90 °C termination column. • Branch overcurrent device — the 430.52(C)(1) maximum by device type (non-time-delay fuse, dual-element fuse, inverse-time breaker, instantaneous-trip breaker), rounded to the next standard 240.6 size. • Overload from the nameplate FLA (430.32) — 125% or 115% by service factor and temperature rise. MULTI-MOTOR FEEDER — TRUEMOTOR PRO • Feeder conductor — 125% of the largest motor's FLC plus the sum of the rest (430.24). • Feeder OCPD — the largest branch device plus the other motors' FLCs (430.62). • An editable motor group — add and remove motors, each with its own branch result feeding the feeder. SHOW YOUR WORK — every result expands to reveal the NEC table row, the multiplier or factor, the formula, and the exact code section. Nothing is hidden. NEVER RECOMMENDS AN ILLEGAL PAIRING — TrueMotor cross-checks conductor ampacity (310.16) and standard device sizes (240.6) and warns, in plain language, if something doesn't line up. BUILT FOR THE FIELD — light and dark themes, Universal iPhone and iPad layout, and calculations saved locally on your device. TrueMotor is a calculation aid for qualified professionals. It does not replace code review, engineering judgment, the equipment listing, or the authority having jurisdiction. Momentum comes from crawler snapshots for the tracked storefront. “Viral growth signal” means unusually fast recent rating gains; it is an indicator, not download data.
