About this app
Rastin is the trust layer for Mac software. Most Mac apps update themselves silently through their own auto-updater. You have no idea what's being installed, no record of it later, and no way to tell which version is the one a security researcher just disclosed a vulnerability for. Rastin fixes that. ONE SCORE FOR YOUR WHOLE MAC Rastin distils the security posture of every app you have into a single number, 0 to 100, displayed in three Activity Rings. Glance at the menu bar green, amber, or red and you know whether you're fine or whether something needs your attention. No more guessing. DESKTOP WIDGETS Add the Rastin Score widget to your desktop or Notification Centre and your Mac's trust posture is always in your peripheral vision. Add the Updates Available widget to see at a glance which apps need updating, with each verdict colour-coded by risk. ONE PLACE FOR EVERY UPDATE Rastin discovers every app on your Mac, from the App Store, from Sparkle-based apps like 1Password and Things, from Homebrew casks, and from direct downloads. They all show up in one window with one badge: Verified, Partial, Suspicious, Vulnerable, or Unknown. CRYPTOGRAPHICALLY VERIFIED Every Verified update is signed end-to-end with Ed25519 keys rooted in the Rastin catalogue. The signature chain is checked against a fingerprint pinned in the app binary itself. If a vendor's download server is compromised tomorrow, Rastin still won't mark a tampered build as safe. CVE ALERTS Rastin cross-references your installed versions against the public CVE database. When a vulnerability is disclosed for an app you're running, Rastin flags it on the dashboard, in the widget, and in the menu bar, before the attacker finds you. TAMPER-EVIDENT AUDIT LOG Every scan and every update notification is recorded in a Merkle-chained audit log. You can hand this log to a security auditor and they can verify it hasn't been edited after the fact. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Rastin runs entirely on your Mac. The catalogue lookups send only the bundle identifier of the app being checked (already public information) no telemetry, no tracking, no usage data. Your installed-app list never leaves your machine. WHAT RASTIN DOES Rastin is built for the Mac App Store. It does not install or modify any app on your Mac itself. When you decide to update, Rastin opens the App Store for App Store apps, launches the vendor's own updater for Sparkle-based apps, or opens the vendor's release page. Apple installs, Rastin tells you which install is safe. REQUIREMENTS • macOS 13 Ventura or later (widgets require macOS 14 Sonoma or later) • Apple silicon or Intel • Internet access for catalogue lookups PERMISSIONS On first launch Rastin asks for one permission: read access to the /Applications folder, so it can see what's installed. It never modifies anything. LEGAL & PRIVACY Privacy Policy: https://anthonystark.au/privacy Terms of Use (EULA): https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/
