About this app

Meridian is a local-first GIS workspace for iPad. It helps you open, inspect, edit, style, analyse, validate, and export spatial data in local project files — built for lightweight, map-first GIS work. FREE TO TRY, ONE-TIME PRO UNLOCK Download free and work on your own data: create projects, import, draw, edit, style, and export within free-tier limits. A single one-time Meridian Pro purchase lifts those limits and unlocks analysis tools, the Workflow Builder, charts, and PDF output. No account, no subscription. LOCAL PROJECTS, OFFLINE Your work lives in local .gispad packages that open and edit completely offline. No analytics — your data stays on your iPad unless you share it. A MAP-FIRST, TOUCH WORKSPACE A full-bleed MapLibre map with floating controls that stay out of the way. Draw and edit directly with touch and Apple Pencil, with a precision loupe for accurate vertex work. Use online basemaps, local PMTiles for true offline maps, or a coordinate grid with no network at all. Satellite basemaps are optional and use your own key. INSPECT AND EDIT AWAY FROM THE DESK Fast attribute tables with search and sort, a feature inspector, field forms, and attribute editing. Draw and edit points, lines, polygons, and rectangles with snapping, vertex editing, split, merge, and undo/redo. FIELD WORK Record a GPS track as you walk a route and save it as a normal line feature — foreground only, with honest pause and resume, and no background tracking ever. Drop a point at your location. Import geotagged photos as a point layer, and attach photos to features: they travel inside the project package and never leak into exported GIS data. IMPORT, EXPORT, AND CONNECTED DATA Import GeoJSON, CSV (WKT or lon/lat), GeoPackage, KML/KMZ, Shapefile, and read-only Esri File Geodatabase. Add public data from Natural Earth, OpenStreetMap, US Census, and GeoNames, or import a one-time copy from OGC API — Features, WFS, and ArcGIS Feature Services. Export clean GeoJSON, GeoPackage, KML/KMZ, Shapefile, and CSV+WKT, checked by an export inspector. CRS-AWARE WORKFLOWS Layers are stored in WGS84. Meridian detects projected data on import, transforms common coordinate systems and UTM zones, and offers Define-CRS and reproject tools with per-layer provenance and an in-app CRS guide. SPATIAL ANALYSIS AND WORKFLOWS A focused set of exploratory tools — buffer, clip, dissolve, convex hull, spatial join, select by location, density, network reachability, summarize within, and more. Chain them in a visual Workflow Builder: wire tool nodes together, run the chain as one job with per-node progress, save it in the project, and rerun it later. Every result is a normal layer you can style and export, with transparent method notes and honest accuracy warnings. STYLE, CHARTS, AND REPORTS Single-symbol, categorized, and graduated styling with custom point marker shapes, line styles, fill patterns, point heatmaps, 3D extrusion, clustering for dense point layers, and labels with offline glyphs. Build charts — bar, histogram, pie, line, scatter, box plot, and more — that link back to your map selection. Add markup notes that never change your data, produce a clean PDF map layout with a legend, scale bar, and north arrow, and assemble saved multi-page Map Brief reports to export as PDF. ASK IN PLAIN LANGUAGE Type a request and Meridian's on-device command planner proposes a reviewable plan, then opens the right tool already filled in. No cloud service, nothing leaves your device, and nothing runs until you confirm. ONE UNIVERSAL APP The same app includes a scoped iPhone companion for viewing projects, toggling layers, editing a feature's attributes, and dropping a quick note in the field. The full workspace lives on iPad. YOUR DATA STAYS YOURS Projects are local .gispad packages. Share them as files and export clean GIS formats with no internal IDs in your data.

What’s New

Version 1.1 Aug 19, 2026

Meridian 1.1 is a major upgrade — and Meridian is now free to download, with a one-time Meridian Pro unlock and no subscription. Create projects, import, draw, edit, style, and export within generous free-tier limits. Meridian Pro unlocks unlimited projects and data, analysis tools, charts, and PDF output. No account required. WORKFLOW BUILDER Chain analysis tools in a visual workflow graph, connect typed inputs and outputs, and run the entire chain as one job with per-step progress. Save workflows in your project and rerun them later. If a step fails, completed work is preserved so you can continue where it stopped. MAP BRIEFS Create saved, multi-page PDF reports with cover, map, narrative, chart, notes-handoff, and summary pages. Scope each page to selected layers and bookmarks, then review missing content and risky states before export. Every sample project includes an example brief. FIELD WORK Record GPS tracks on iPad with accuracy filtering and pause/resume; completed tracks become normal line features. Import geotagged photos as point layers or attach photos to features. Photos stay inside the project package, travel with shares and duplicates, and are excluded from GIS exports. COORDINATE SYSTEMS Meridian now supports projected data end to end. Define and inspect each layer’s CRS, set default and working project CRSs, and reproject layers. Import projected CSV/WKT and GeoJSON by declaring a source CRS, with coordinates transformed to WGS84 and provenance recorded. Export GeoPackage and CSV+WKT in a chosen CRS. A searchable CRS picker, coordinate converter, in-app guide, and expanded offline projection engine make working with coordinate systems easier. MORE DATA IN AND OUT Import multi-layer GeoPackages and export layers to GeoPackage with correct CRS metadata. Import and export KML/KMZ and Shapefiles. Import read-only Esri File Geodatabases with feature-class selection. Connect to OGC API — Features, WFS, and ArcGIS Feature Services to import and refresh layers; credentials remain on your device and are never included in exports. The Open Data Library adds more providers and can fetch data for the current map view. STYLING, FIELDS, AND CHARTS Choose from more point marker shapes, including circles, squares, diamonds, triangles, stars, crosses, and pins, across single, categorized, and graduated symbols. Point clustering groups dense data into counted circles that separate as you zoom. Large-layer rendering and symbology are faster. Manage field types with badges, inference, and a Convert Type flow that keeps tables, charts, filters, symbology, and exports consistent. Charts now include bar, histogram, pie, line, scatter, box plot, density, and matrix heatmap; selections link to the map, and charts export to PNG, JPG, PDF, or SVG. Definition filters support multi-clause AND/OR conditions with live match counts. ANALYSIS AND PDF LAYOUT New tools include Convex Hull, Simplify, Smooth, Bounding Boxes, and Fix Geometries; Dissolve now supports lines. Analysis and imports show progress, and analysis jobs can be cancelled. The guided PDF map layout adds presets, framed and full-bleed modes, element placement, grid overlays, scale-bar and north-arrow styles, dynamic text, legend options, export quality controls, PDF preview, and multi-page bookmark packets. WORKSPACE POLISH Project thumbnails and downloadable samples make it easier to get started. Search for places or jump to pasted coordinates in Finder. Measure mode gains a docked readout and copy-total action, vertex editing is clearer on Mac, and the on-device Command planner now handles multi-step requests while always presenting a form for confirmation.
